Our Mission
At the Brutalist Architecture Convention,
we aim to bring together architects, designers, scholars,
and enthusiasts to delve into the raw, unfiltered essence of brutalist architecture.
Our mission is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of this iconic style,
highlighting its historical significance and its influence on contemporary design and urban
landscapes that will shape humanity's ambitions into the next century.
What is Brutalism?
Brutalism, derived from the French term “béton brut” (raw concrete),
is characterized by its bold, geometric forms, exposed concrete surfaces,
and a focus on functionality. This architectural movement emerged in the mid-20th century
as a reaction against the ornamentation of previous styles, emphasizing a more honest and
rugged approach to building design.
